She grew up training in martial arts and was determined to thrive in sports when she decided to attend St. Ignatius. She was a 4-year starter as the point guard at SI and received league MVP honors her senior year, 1998. She then played 2 years at UC Davis and finished her career at UC San Diego in 2002. Maya was inducted into the SF Prep Hall of Fame in 2025, for her time as a player at SI. She was an assistant coach for the Varsity Girls Basketball team at SI from 2003-2006. She then attended graduate school at Dominican University for a Masters in Occupational Therapy, where she also was an assistant coach at the collegiate level from 2006-2007. In 2009, Maya started coaching AAU for the JCC and Olympic club. She coached at Convent high school from 2012-2014. In 2014, she became the Head Varsity Coach at Urban High School for 6 years. She was the Head Varsity Coach at SI from 2020-2025. She was hired as an assistant coach at San Ramon Valley High School in the summer of 2025 and is absolutely loving it. Maya currently works as a pediatric occupational therapist, working with children with special needs and developmental delay, and she is the owner of a private clinic called Connected Kidz in the city. She has been a member of the Olympic Club’s National Women’s team since 2009, played until 2020 and has helped coach the team since then. She also coached the Men’s Golden Masters OC team, from 2014-2022. In addition, Maya started a new AAU program called SF Sparks for girls basketball in March 2022. SF Sparks is a competitive program for girls, ages 7th grade through high school. The goal is to teach team basketball at a high level, build confidence, build basketball IQ, and prepare each player for high school varsity basketball and beyond. Maya has a passion and love for the game of basketball and truly believes in teaching the fundamentals of the game. She is extremely competitive and strives to stay positive as a player and coach. Most importantly, Maya values the relationships with players and families and life lessons that coaching has afforded her over the years.
